Coin Description Theodosius I, AE 21 mm, Grade ??, Both sites are very worn causing most details to be missing, the right site of the obverse is corroded in such a way that most of the legend is unintelligible, VM 27
Obverse The portrait is of Theodosius I a pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust facing right. The legend reads DN THEODOSIVS PF AVG meaning: DN (Dominus Noster /our lord showing the emperor to be the supreme ruler) THEODOSIVS (his name) PF (Pius Felix / Dutiful and Wise) AVG Augustus which defines him as being the emperor. The legend is broken which is a sign of the highest respect and signifies him as the senior Augustus.
Reverse

The reverse shows Theodosius facing head left, holding a labarum in his right hand and a globe in his left hand. The legend reads GLORIA ROMANORVM which translates as "The glory of Rome / the Romans".

Mint The exergue begins with an S but the rest of it is unfortunately unreadable.
The Entire Story The entire story of this coin would read: Our Lord Theodosius I the Dutiful and Wise Augustus. The Glory of the Romans is of course brought to the people by Theodosius I. The labarum shows him to be a devote Christian and the globe symbolizes the world/empire he rules.
