Coin Description Maximianus "Herculius", AE Silvered Folles width 27mm height 25mm, Grade ??, The coin is fully silvered and is well centered on an oval flan there are some very hard encrustations on the obverse and reverse. It was bought trough the FORVM auctions, VM 39, RBC 25, RIC VI Rome 63
Obverse The portrait is of Maximianus "Herculius" a laureate bust facing right. The legend reads IMP C MA MAXIMIANVS PF AVG meaning: IMP (Imperator = the Emperor / supreme military commander) C (Caesar) MA (Marcus) MAXIMIANVS (his name) PF (Pius Felix / Dutiful and Wise) AVG (Augustus which defines him as being the emperor).
Reverse

The reverse shows the Genius of the roman people naked standing left wearing a chlamys over his left shoulder he 's holding a patera in his right and a cornucopia in his left hand and he has a modius on his head. The legend reads GENIO POPVLI ROMANI which translates as: "To the Genius (spirit) of the Roman people".

There is an R in the left field which in this case is the mintmark for Rome (on this coin the mintmark is not in the exergue but the officina of the mint is shown in the exergue).

Mint The exergue reads A meaning the first (Alpha) officina of Rome (as indicated by the R in the left field).
The Entire Story The entire story of this coin would read: Our supreme commander and emperor Marcus Maximianus the dutifull and wise Augustus. The reverse is dedicated to the genius of the roman people who constantly strifes to bring the people happiness and plenty as symbolised by the cornucopia and modius and him making sacrifices to the gods as indicated by the patera.
