Coin Description Constantius Gallus, AE 21mm by 18mm (the flan is oval shaped), Grade ??, The reverse of the coin is quite worn or weakly struck and unfortunately this causes the finer details to be missing, because of the oval shape of the flan a lot of detail is missing especially on the reverse, VM 4, RBC 462b, RIC VII Heraclea 86
Obverse The portrait is of Constantius Gallus a bare headed bust looking right. The legend reads DN CONSTANTIVS NOB C meaning: DN (Dominus Noster /our lord) CONSTANTIVS (his name) NOB C (Nobilitas Caesar / Royal Heir to the throne). There is a Δ in the left field this indicates this is the fourth series of Fel Temp coins since the start of Constantius II's coin reform.
Reverse The reverse shows a roman soldier advancing left spearing a fallen horseman. The legend reads FEL TEMP REPARATIO which translates as "The restoration of happy times" or "Happy days are here again". Of course symbolizing Constantius as the person who restored those happy times by defeating the barbarians.
Mint The exergue reads SMHA meaning SM (Sacred Moneta / Sacred Money) K for the Heraclea mint A for the first officina (alpha).
