Coin Description | Constantine II , AE 18 mm, Grade??, The coin is well centered, it has several big rusty lumps which cannot be removed (2 on lower obverse 1 upper left of the reverse), as you can see on the reverse the copper core is coming trough in several raised spots especially on the standards this happenend during cleaning removing the dirt also removed the (very thin) patina in these places.VM 45, RBC 365, RIC VII Constantinople 74. |
Obverse | The portrait is of Constantine II a laureate and cuirassed bust facing right. The legend reads CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C meaning: CONSTANTINVS (his name) IVN (junior/the younger to distinguish him from his father with the same name) NOB C (Nobilitas Caesar / Royal Heir to the throne). |
Reverse | The reverse shows two soldiers on either site of the two standards, each holding an inverted spear (signifying peace) and leaning on a shield. The legend reads GLORIA EXERCITVS which translates as "Glory of the Army" or "Glory to the Army". |
